Your Voice Matters: Life with Acromegaly and the Power of Patient Registries

Wednesday, May 28, 2025

7 pm

Please join us for an APPS webinar discussing acromegaly, a condition caused by the excessive production of growth hormone, typically from a tumour of the pituitary gland.  This event will also discuss the Canadian Acromegaly Registry and how patients can contribute their own journeys with acromegaly to this initiative.  The information collected seeks to improve patient care and improve access to new treatments.

Our presenters will be Dr. Constance Chik (endocrinologist, co-founder of APPS, and steering committee member of the Canadian Acromegaly Registry) and Dr. Victoria Hodgkinson (Canadian Acromegaly Registry and Chief Scientific Officer of Lumiio Inc.)  After the webinar, participants are welcome to stay and meet others experiencing acromegaly and other pituitary conditions.

Please register for this event.  The link to the webinar will be sent to all registrants closer to the event date.  All are welcome, whether you experience acromegaly or not!

Presenters

Dr. Constance Chik completed her medical training at the University of Toronto and her PhD in Neurosciences at McMaster University. After a postdoctoral fellowship at the National Institutes of Health, she joined the Division of Endocrinology and Metabolism at the University of Alberta.  Her clinical interest is neuroendocrine disorders. She is a former Program Director and Divisional Director of Endocrinology, University of Alberta. She is also a past president of the Canadian Society of Endocrinology and Metabolism. She co-founded the Alberta Pituitary Patient Society, a patient support group.  She is Professor Emeritus, University of Alberta and still cares for a large number of pituitary patients.

Dr. Victoria Hodgkinson completed her PhD in Biochemistry from the University of Missouri.  She is the Chief Scientific Officer for Lumiio Inc., where she leads scientific work behind national and international patient registries, tools that help track and understand diseases over time.  She leads many programs, including the Canadian Acromegaly Registry and the Global Acromegaly Registry.  Her work focuses on ensuring patient data is collected in the best way possible to help understand and improve care, guide research, and inform regulatory decisions on drug treatments.  She brings together patients, doctors, researchers, companies, and policymakers to design better tools that protect privacy while maximizing the value of shared health information.  Dr. Hodgkinson is also an active researcher and has published numerous articles in the areas of health data, rare diseases, and patient-centered research.  She was recently recognized as one of Calgary’s Top 40 Under 40 for her work in health data and registries, an award that celebrates exceptional young leaders making significant contributions in their fields.
