APPS’ Annual General Meeting (AGM) is happening Wednesday, June 24, 2026 at 7pm!

As a valued member of our pituitary community, we’re inviting you to re-engage with a cause that makes a real difference in the lives of Albertans affected by pituitary conditions. All APPS members, current or former, are welcome to attend the AGM.

Join us as we share who we are and what we do as a society, celebrate the year's activities and successes, and elect the incoming Board members for the 2026-2027 year.  Come make a difference in the lives of others!  We hope to see you there!

Registration will be available closer to the date.

    Highlights from 2025-2026

    • We continued to host regular monthly virtual support group meetings.  Attendees have included people who are newly diagnosed, pre/post-intervention, and navigating the management of their conditions.
    • We held our annual patient education day last October.  It featured two heartfelt patient journey stories on adrenal insufficiency and hypopituitarism, and presentations from endocrinologist Dr. Andre Lacroix (Cushing's syndrome), neurosurgeon Dr. Michael Cusimano (early detection of acromegaly), and University of Alberta faculty, researchers, and medical students - Dr. Puneeta Tandon, Dr. Ashley Hyde, and Emily Johnson (wellbeing for people with chronic disease and their caregivers), and Dr. Dalal Awwad, Dr. Lana Bistritz, Fiza Rajput, and Talla Jallad (patients as mentors in medical education and the Patient Immersion Experience program).
    • We organized a joint support group with members from the Prairies/Territories chapter of The Canadian Addison Society last August.
    • We held our second online and in-person silent auction fundraiser last November.
    • We will be hosting an education session on advocating for your health on May 30th in collaboration with The Canadian Addison Society.  The event will feature representatives from the Office of the Alberta Health Advocates and a teaching session on the administration of Act-O-Vial Solu-Cortef injections for those with hypopituitarism/adrenal insufficiency.
    • We shared with the community notice of the shortage of desmopressin nasal spray and a number of resources, including research opportunities for facial recognition in the early diagnosis of acromegaly and the national acromegaly patient registry, and whether pituitary conditions can be inherited.

Looking to Make a Difference for People Experiencing Pituitary Conditions?

APPS is powered by a small but passionate team of volunteers who are dedicated to supporting, educating, and advocating for pituitary patients across Alberta.  As a Society serving patients throughout Alberta, we encourage anyone interested in our cause to consider getting involved!  We are seeking representation from all regions of the province, and welcome patients, caregivers, and medical professionals alike.  Please consider supporting APPS by volunteering as a Board Member or Committee Member.  If you would like more information, please contact us at info@albertapituitary.org.

    Board Opportunities: Step into Leadership

We are currently seeking volunteers to join our Board of Directors. Being on the Board is an excellent way to give back while gaining leadership experience and expanding your professional network. The time commitments vary by role but generally range from 4–8 hours per month. The following positions for the 2026-2027 Board will be elected at the upcoming AGM:

    • Director (multiple positions): A flexible role supporting a variety of initiatives, from event planning to strategic development.  This role is great for those who want to make a meaningful impact while learning more about APPS and the non-profit world.
    • President: Sets the strategic direction of the society, plans patient support and education events and fundraising initiatives, represents APPS to the community, and chairs Board meetings.
    • Vice-President: Supports the work of the President and other Board members, prepares and distributes communications to the membership.
    • Secretary: Maintains meeting minutes, ensures we stay on top of key governance deadlines, and contributes additional administrative responsibilities. Strong organizational skills are a plus for this role!
    • Treasurer: Oversees financial records, budgets, and ensures the financial health of the Society.  This role is ideal for a person with bookkeeping or accounting experience.

Committee Opportunities: Contribute Your Skills Where They’re Needed Most

Our Committees are a vital part of the Society and a great way to contribute in smaller, targeted ways (2–4 hours per month and/or ad-hoc contributions closer to events). Join one that matches your interests and skills!

    • Fundraising Committee: Help us create and implement creative ways to raise funds and support the work of APPS.  This role is perfect for those who enjoy community outreach or marketing.
    • Event Committee: Help us organize and deliver patient education sessions and community outreach events.  This role is great for detail-oriented planners and event organizers.
    • Membership Committee: Help us grow our community, welcome new members, and maintain active communication with existing ones.
    • Finance Committee: Help us review budgets, monitor revenues and expenses, ensure accurate financial reporting, and ensure the financial sustainability of APPS.

We hope to see you at the AGM!

Your friends at Alberta Pituitary Patient Society
